Topic: wheel bearing grease

I am rebuilding the brake system on my '40 Mercury convertible. In the process, I am replacing wheel seals and repacking the wheel bearings. What is a good modern grease to use in the rear wheel bearings? I've got fiberous wheel bearing grease from the '50s, but am using Sticky Red grease in the front wheel bearings. Would the sticky Red be suitable for the rear bearings also? I hate to have to pull the rear hubs any more times than necessary. Thanks for any help.........

Because of the wide tolerances on your rear wheel bearings, you need what used to be called long fiber grease. You should use your "fiberous wheel bearing grease" not the sticky red grease for the rear wheel bearings. CRC SL3131 Heavy Duty Drum Brake Wheel Bearing Grease is the modern equivalent.

Thanks Ken, that was kind of my feeling. I'll pick up your suggested grease from NAPA today. I had used the fiber type grease in the past for front wheel bearings routinely, but didn't know if something better was available.
