Topic: 1953 Mercury Serial number

Dobie    -- 02-12-2017 @ 8:43 PM
I have a 53 Merc with a serial number on the title of 53SL120854M. In J.K. Wagner's book he lists serial numbers from SL10001m to Sl42285M
Are we talking apples and oranges? Do I need to look for another number?

Found the answer thanks for responding.

There should be a plate on the passenger side front door with the serial number of your car. I suspect a typo error on your title.

The serial number plate is on the drivers side. The error in the title is the last digit a 9 should be in place of a 4.
Same number of digits.

If there is a typo on your title and the character in question is similar to the actual character on the plate or frame, it might not be a bad idea to ask someone from your DMV about how to handle the situation. If you are already registered then it won't affect you until you try to sell the car. It's a good idea to try and rectify it as soon as possible after you become aware of the problem.
