Topic: Hand brake handle and clock retainer paint color

plymboy    -- 06-17-2016 @ 2:42 PM
Are the brake handle and clock retainer the same color?

42oink    -- 06-12-2017 @ 12:15 PM
Hi Plymboy, I think you need to give a little more information for an answer. Like year, body style, deluxe or standard or super deluxe or special or ???. Good luck 42oink

I would think asking the question in the 1940 Ford section that he is talking about a 1940 Ford. Asking about clock details would make the Ford a deluxe. Body style would not matter.

I was never able to find a code for the clock nor the retainer. However, from my experience, they match the "courtesy lamp" bezel very closely. Dark brown - not like the Ford V8 model dash but again, close to the lamp bezel.

  Good Evening All----
The bezels for the interior light itself and the switch are definitely, dark brown, like Mike said.
The 1940 Ford Restoration Manual, on page 3-15, states "...the clock cover is painted Briarwood Brown". I think this is the name of the dark brown color for these pieces.
I am sending you 4 photos of the clock, retainer, and interior light switch and bezel. But being technically- challenged, I seem to be having some problems sending them to you. I'll send them to you individually to be sure you get them.
Best of luck on the restoration.
Tom

Hi 42 MERC, Boy, is my face red! But when PLYMBoy (get it?) asks a question, I just wanted to be on the same page. If you scan down the topics, maybe you can explain what a 50 conv or 46 Ford super deluxe is. But then we all know what happens when you ASSUME. Thanks 42 MERC. 42 oink.

Not trying to be a smart a-- , just reading between the lines. I agree, the poster should have provided more information.

Hey 40 Tom can you post a pic of where in the glovebox the light wire for the clock goes thru?
Thanks,

I don't have a photo on file but could garner a fresh one if need be. There should be a small brass grommet on the bottom, near the front - left side of the box liner.
If you have a reproduction box, it is most likely absent. In fact, the entire box is most likely incorrect.
years ago, the box liners were faithfully reproduced. the ones I've witnessed in the past ten years or so have been poorly recreated at best.

  Good Morning, Bob---

I have photos of what you are looking for.

Am running out the door right now, but will send them to you by tonight - a total of 4 photos.

Hey Mike---will send you a set of these photos also. Your description of the wiring location and the routing of the wiring through the brass grommet is spot-on.

Tom

Yes, my glove box is a reproduction and that's why I couldn't figure out where it went. A pic would be great then I can figure out how to replicate this.

  Hello Bob---

Photo # 1 is attached. I'll send you the other 3 in single e-mails in a few minutes.

If you want to get technical, the brass grommet is one-and-a-half inches (1 -1/2") in, from both the leading edge of the glove compartment door attachment, and the left side of the glove compartment box.

Hope this helps you.

Tom

Thanks Tom, that was very helpful. I noticed that it looks like two wires come out of the clock. One thru the brass grommet and one thru a rubber grommet. Is this correct or am I imagining things?

fordor    -- 01-25-2018 @ 6:34 PM
Forget my last post. I blew up photo #3 and seen I was imagining things. I'm good now. Thanks for taking the time. I appreciate it.
