Topic: 40 battery

  Hey Mike,
How close to the firewall does the battery sit? I have an original type battery and box and it sits far from the firewall that the hold down just does contact the edge of the battery. The battery box has tree bolts that hold it in, two going straight down and one coming from the side.
Thanks,
Ronnie

That sounds correct. The battery "hold down" clamp covers perhaps 1/2" or so of the battery top.
I would suggest you make certain the battery is moved rearward in the tray as far as possible. The repop batteries are not quite the correct (authentic) size.

  Thanks Mike.
It looks like they would have had a more secure way of holding the battery down. I guess that's why they changed it latter.

The battery is held in position by the ledge at the bottom in the front and by the clamp at the rear. The clamp covers about 1/2" of the top of the battery. The bottom of the box covers 1/8" of the bottom ledge.

The battery in my Mercury sits at an angle to the firewall and the corner nearest the driver's side is about 1/8" from the firewall. My battery is 10 5/8 inches long at the bottom and 10 3/8" at the top.

If yours doesn't allow the battery to sit close enough to the firewall, you may be able to elongate the mounting holes enough to move it closer.

That's a good idea,that's what I need to do.
