Topic: Engine installation

I am ready to install my rebuilt flathead into my 40 Ford. I took the engine out separate from the tranny. I need to know if I should bolt down the transmission first, or leave it loose.

I can't quite picture what you have there by the wording of your question.
It sounds as if the transmission s till in the chassis.
Is the transmission still in the chassis? If it is simply loose from the frame I would leave it loose from the frame to make it easier to align with the clutch and pilot bearing.
If the transmission was also removed from the chassis and the front clip is off the car, bolt the transmission to the engine now. Much easier to align the clutch / pilot bearing.
If the front clip is on and the transmission removed, install the trsns. separately but leave it loose from the frame until the engine has been attached.

Thank You for your response. Yes the engine is still in the car. The mounts are not in so we can move the tranny around.
