The discussion today at the Florida show was about vent Windows.. A 39 convertible came in with vent Windows and someone was saying they were options on 39&40 cars. I do not remember ever seeing a 40 with out vent Windows. So what is right?

On 1939 closed cars, Ford did not have as standard equipment, draft deflectors. Ford offered them as an option for the closed cars but not for the open cars. Someone did manufacture draft deflectors (wind wings) for the open cars. It fit 1939 back to 1937 open cars. At some point, Jerry Emery reproduced a limited number of these draft deflectors. Attached is a picture or a link to a picture of that draft deflector.

All 40's had vent windows. In 39 there were no vent windows. The window in a 39 closed car rolled back and then down.Dealers offered accessory draft deflectors that could be mounted on the doors for open and closed cars.

Did Ford manufacture and offer the draft deflectors for '39 open cars? Or did the dealers get them from another source other than Ford? I remember talking to Jerry about his reproduction and I understood that they were not a Ford offering.

Ken, I believe you could get them from the dealers, but I'm not sure if they were an authorized accessory or not. The dealers did sell items that were not authorized accessories.

Tom, I should never doubt the x-pres..
When all else fails, read the checklist or in this case the 1939-39 Ford Book. Under running changes, on 3-15-39, it states "We have made arrangements with the Rex Sales Corp., 5853 West Fort St, Detroit, Mi. to supply direct to dealers Draft Deflectors for the Ford Convertible Sedan, Deluxe Convertible Coupe, and the Mercury Sport Convertible. They will ship a set of these deflectors direct to any dealer in the United States at a price of $17.50 Net per set, delivered."
I guess Jerry re-popped these deflectors.
So Tom, your recollection is still in tact. How's the new pup? Ken

The new pup is great Ken. Full of energy. She's able to grab the end of the toilet paper and pull it the full length of the house! You have to laugh and can't get mad at the little bugger. When she's good she's my dog. When she's into mischief she's my wife's dog.
