Hello - I recently joined the EFV-8 Club and this is my first post. I have a 1940 Ford Coupe which I am beginning to restore. I am currently trying to remove the steering column and steering box. I read a good thread in this forum for removing. However, I am puzzled by one step. There are two bolts that attach the steering lock to my dash. One is a hex bolt which I have already loosened. The other bolt has a smooth round head (almost like a carriage bolt head). Is this normal and any suggestions for removing? Thanks, Eric

What you are finding is the authentic "twist off" bolt. This was a special bolt installed at the assembly line that when tightened, the head of the bolt would "twist off". Some sort of anti-theft design. I have had good fortune removing these with a small locking pliers. You will of course only be able to turn it a small distance with each "clamp". Patience is required but it will come out. Mike "Kube" Kubarth

Mike - thank you, exactly what I needed. With some effort this morning I was able to get it off. I really appreciate you pointing me in the right direction. The build has a long way to go so many more learning moments ahead for me. Thanks Eric
