The old 40 book for Deluxe car says 4 inch and that the 4.75 inch was also found on some cars. I have the 4.75 pair and they are Ford script..and a pair of 4 inch which look identical but with out the Ford script only what looks like a MF on it might be MH. Is non Ford script acceptable or the script 4.75 acceptable

The front links were 4" when the car was equipped with the stabilizer bar. Your car, being the Deluxe model was equipped originally with that bar so, you should install 4" links if authenticity is what you are seeking.
"MH" (McKaig-Hatch)was one of the companies that supplied Ford with shock links. These are perfectly acceptable upon the concourse.
As a side note, if a '40 did not have a stabilizer bar, it was originally equipped with 3" links.
4 3/4" links were never installed upon a '40 Ford passenger car - that is an error within that book.
I have attached a photo of the shock links provided to Ford by the three suppliers of this period (1940).
