Mike, where does the front fender welting end? does it go behind the inner fender apron at the top?
Thanks, Don is there welting between the fender and grille?

  Hi ya Don,
Front fender welting...
There is a piece that goes between the cowl and fender. It ends obviously at the bottom and at that point was simply cut off. Another piece was placed between the fender and grille on the "standard" models. At the bottom, here too, it was simply cut off. At the top is protruded slightly beyond the grille and was secured to the lip of the fender with a small binding head screw and flat washer.
On the Deluxe models a dedicated welt was placed between the grille and fender. It had a stainless bead, the top being inserted in to a hole in the sheet metal portion of the grille.

Between the apron and fender a thin piece of anti-squeak material was placed. It was originally nailed to the inner fender (apron).
Hope this helps.
Mike "Kube" Kubarth

Don, here are 2 photos of original 40 Fords and 1 restored 40, showing how the welting was terminated at the upper end of the cowl and fender.

This one shows it just cut off

  Here is the restored car.

I don't have a photo of an original Deluxe car grille area.
