Do you look for original headlight bulbs with the steel back on the 40 Fords? In the picture which one am I. Right the middle one. A couple of buddies that are teaching me the trade.

Hey Ken! I hope you are doing well.
That picture comes up at about 1" square. Like I can see that!
The bulbs... when i do a car I use authentic bulbs. However, as you are most likely aware, I am a bit crazy in my restorations.
That being said, Drakes repop bulbs are actually pretty good and a ton cheaper than authentic bulbs.
Are you going to the Charlotte Meet?

I have some burned out script light bulbs with the metal backs--Mike I have been told of several ways to fix them-How do you do this?

I have two original bulbs like new but have never put them in the 40. I will after the inspection. I have been hunting 40 Ford parts for several years. I also have a NOS grill still in the box. Just a few goodies. Not as many as you.

I've never repaired those old bulbs myself. However, at one time Jack Edison was doing just that. From the appearance, I think he'd simply took the bulbs apart, replaced the filament with a modern halogen bulb, reassembled the sealed beam and sealed it with silicone.
I have been fortunate enough to have stashed a bunch of NOS bulbs away. Still, they won;t last forever and I may need to venture in to the "repair" end of this
