Does anyone have photos of the correct manifold for an early 1940 ford standard coupe 85 hp? Or a good description including location of vacuum ports, etc.

Note in Mikes picture on the 1940 cast iron manifold, on the LH side of the manifold where the bolt holes are for attachment. There is a forward port for the distributor vacuum and near the rear a second port for the wiper vacuum. There is NO port under the carburetor for vacuum.

40coupe, That is correct. The valve chamber covers with that port below the carburetor base are a later design.

How steady of a vacuum reading would be obtained from a gauge attached to either of the two vacuum ports available with this intake manifold?

Typically the vacuum at the wiper port is steady as a rock for an engine in good condition. If not double check the vacuum gauge on a good engine, before looking for problems.
