Need to remove the gas pedal before installing the new floor mat in my 1940 Ford Standard. Any suggestions? I didn't see any pins holding it in. Thanks to all for your help.

The lower end is fastened with a pair of screws into the floorboard. The top has a pocket that slips over a knob on the rod connected to the part of the system on the firewall. On old pedals, usually the rubber has hardened, and may require some force to remove the rod, probably breaking the pocket in the process. A bit of silicone spray or grease will help you reconnect it.

You'll need to remove the rod that attaches the pedal to the linkage first. I'd suggest grasping the rod inside the car with a locking pliers and then pulling the pedal away. Like Super advised, usually the old rubber is so hard (brittle) it may very well break away. Not to worry, the repop peddles are decent.
Once you have removed the rod from the pedal, swing the pedal back (it's hinged) and remove the one bolt at the bottom. It is threaded in to a staked nut in the wood floor board.
If you simply looking to replace the floor mat, you do not need to completely remove the pedal. Only the rod from the pedal must be detached.
