Topic: Bad starter button?

I installed a repop starter button in my 40 a month ago. It worked fine for a while, then would stop working intermittently and now it doesn't work at all.

Is this likely an issue with the button itself or do you think it's a ground problem?

Bill: Easy to troubleshoot, just pop the button out of the instrument panel and leave the wire attached. If you can make the starter work by grounding the wire/attachment
tab to the bare metal surface of the mounting hole, then it is an internal switch problem. If not, then the problem will be between the wire that grounds the starter solenoid or the solenoid itself. You can check the solenoid by simply grounding the
stud that leads to the starter switch.

Stroker is right on with his advice to check the switch., The repop switches are pretty much junk and I'd bet heavy that's your issue. I'd suggest looking for a NOS switch.
