Topic: 40 Ford carb question

I have only 75 miles on a complete rebuilt car top to bottom. Last night I drove the car 15 miles and the first 8 miles the car ran beautiful.... then the last 7 miles the car stalled out while driving about 10 times. The car would restart almost immediately and drive for another 3/4 mile or so before stalling again. Each time I restarted the car it would run fine for about a mile before stalling again. This morning I can smell a strong gas odor in my garage and can see what appears to be gas residue below the carb. Is this likely an adjustment?...a stuck needle or float?...gasket leak?

Did you just work on the carb? The symptoms could also point to a failing fuel pump, particularly one that wasn't fuel proof for the new gas. We have also found partially clogged fuel lines or filters and, of course, a failing ignition coil, which mimics loss of fuel. Some signs of gas leakage and odor are not uncommon after shutting down. The residual heat causes the fuel to expand and ooze from the bowl vent.

As Supereal advised a weak spark can cause those symptoms.

Check for a strong spark at idle, it should be at least 1/2 inch long.

If the spark is strong, check fuel dellivery from the fuel pump. Disconnect the line from the carburetor and direct the output into a container. Crank the engine and check the amount of gas that comes out. You should get at least 8 ounces in 10 pumps.
