Topic: FRT LICENSE BRACKET

I just bought a new frt license brkt from Dennis Carpenter for my 40 standard. It has 2 mounting holes on the bottom, but neither the bumper or the bumper brackets have matching holes. Do I need something else?? There was no frt license bracket on the car when I bought it. Thanks

The holes in the bracket should match the holes in the right outer bumper iron. Perhaps that is why there was no bracket on the car when you bought it. It may not have the correct irons on the car and trying to drill a hole in those spring steel bumper irons is a tough proposition. Double check with Carpenter to make sure you have the correct bracket.

I am going to hazard a guess and say you have incorrect bumper arm(s). The brackets(although a bit different in configuration)have the same bolt pattern for a number of years.
I have attached a photo of a proper bracket for 1940.
Hope this helps,
Mike Kubarth

Yea neither of my outer brackets have any bracket holes. So apparently they have been changed over the years. I have to admit I do like the clean frt end look anyway, but I thought while I had everything apart I would put one on. Thanks guys

Original brackets have a slight convex curve on the front side of the bracket and a slight concave area on the backside. If you have brackets that are flat on boht sides you probably have repo or early replacement irons.
