Topic: I heard the new 40 coupe will not be produced

The Ford Barn said the new Forty Ford coupe has been halted. I think it was Bob Drake that was producing the new body.

IF IT CAN NOT BE FIXED WITH BLASTING WIRE, DUCT TAPE OR JB WELD - IT CAN NOT BE FIXED

I was just on Drake's web site, and they do not mention the '40 project at all. In fact, I think it was last month's Hemmings with an ad for discounts on fenders, hoods etc., with the notation "until existing stock is gone." Makes me wonder if they could not reach an agreement with Ford licensing people, and did kill the project. Anybody know what is really going on?

Would guess that the price and availability made the project less than feasible. Most collectors want their vehicles to be authentic. Even if a repro body resembles the original in every way, it isn't "real". The street rod guys don't care about that, so they opt for the glass bodies to put on their hot rod chassis. You have to give Drake credit for trying, however.

Carpenter will be selling the bodies. They will be made by Real Deal Steel, the folks who make the 55-57 Chevy bodies.

Thread from the FordBarn, Bob Drake chimes in as well.
