Hoping for some help! I have a 1946 Ford Business Coupe with a 51 8BA flathead. I need to pull the radiator as the fill spout has developed a leak. Radiator shop wants it pulled from the car to repair. I was able to detach the upper radiator hoses with ease but the lowers were a major pain. I had to cut the driver side as there was no room to slide off either the water pump or radiator side. What’s weird is it appears to be a 46 radiator as it has the bottom two hole mount with spring and side two bolt mounts whereas a 51 radiator has a completely different mount. Long story short, would I grab radiator hoses for the 46 radiator bottom outlet dimensions or 51 flathead dimensions. Were they the same? Getting the lower radiator hoses installed can be tough. When I installed them on '53 Flathead, I had to cut about 3 inches off of each hose to get it to fit.

Use the '46 bottom hoses.

Put the hoses in hot water. Then apply a coating of grease to the water pump and radiator tubes. And then plan on bending them to get them on. It works, but will not be a 5 minute job.

Perfect thanks everyone for the tips! I’ll order the 46’ hoses and try the methods you all recommended to get these suckers back on! Definitely not a quick job!

hi almost all auto parts stores stock 1 3/4 inch rubber hoses, I just installed a set on my 37, they sell it by the inch, I think I paid $1.29 I did not use any lube, just v the hoses and use a lot of muscle . and pushed up I think grease will rot the rubber,if you have to use a lube use the lube to mount tires, my 3 cents, check your water pumps for any play, if they are worn NOWS the tine to replace the time, hope this helps 37RAGTOPMAN, Maine,

Take care you don’t cut them too short. Soften in hot water and apply silicone to help them slide on. The next time you have to remove them you’ll be happy again for the silicone. Run up to temperature and retighten the hose clamps. Alan

Here's my 2cents: put a piece of cardboard over the radiator fins to protect them, and second, leave the mounting bolts loose or preferably out to allow the radiator to move forward that little bit that might keep you sane. You'll get it. 42oink
