Topic: speedometer reads faster than actual speed

New here. Just got a 40 standard 4dor.
The speedometer reads 70 when actual speed is 55MPH. It has the pie crust firestone 6.00 x 16 tires.
I realize this has probably been discussed to death but when I do a simple search such as taillight it says nothing found.

Find a measured mile on the highway and see if the odometer is off by the same amount. If it is you probably have the wrong gear on the driveshaft. Someone probably rebuilt the rear end with a different ring/pinion ratio and didn't update the speedometer drive gear. Update the speedometer drive gear and the problem will go away. If the odometer is correct and just the speedometer is off you probably need to have the speedometer rebuilt.

Welcome to the site. You might want to add your general location to your profile, you can never tell when it will pay off.

  Welcome!
"when I do a simple search such as taillight it says nothing found."
Suggest you expand the time of the search. Default is 60 DAYS. Change that to ALL.

Found the problem with search was that the user name needed to be left blank. Now getting search info thanks.

All the gears and turtle gears were correct. The odometer was only showing 8/10s mile per minute which pretty much accounted for the error. Recalibrated the speedometer at sixty, now indicated 60 MPH actual speed according to smart phone app is 58MPH.
