I want to tighten the fanbelt on my 1940 coupe. It looks straight forward, but could use info on the best way to move the generator up and tighten the nut at same time. I don't see any way to pry it up. Thanks in advance for any iput

Use a crowbar and a small wooden block. Loosen the retaining nut under the generator while lifting the generator by pushing down on the crowbar while using the block of wood as a fulcrum. Be careful not to apply pressure on the conduits for the ignition wires as they will be dented. Slide the wooden block closer to the generator while holding up the crowbar and tighten the retaining nut.

Carcrazy posted good info for you. I will add just a footnote: your crowbar prying against a wood block is capable of applying tremendous force. You should retain a slack of 1” on your fan belt to avoid damage not only to the belt, but to the generator and water pumps as well.
