Topic: Rear Motor Mounts

Looking at what's involved to change rear engine/trans mounts on a '40. I've never done this before.

Can I get the 1" or 2" needed to slip new mounts in by just lifting at the bottom of transmission case? I will loosen the front mounts to allow pivoting there. What about the steady rods? Clutch push rod? Anything else I'm not seeing?

If you loosen the front mounts and remove the bolt that fastens the rods to the frame, you are able to jack up the rear of the transmission just enough to sneak a pair of new mounts in there. Be aware that many times the bolts included in the kits are not long enough. If you want to use the new bolts, be certain you measure them first.
In my opinion, Drake makes the very best mounts.

Thanks, Kube. Exactly what I needed to know.

I've seen your advice on Bob Drake mounts, so that's what I bought. At this time B.O.B. is out-of-stock of course, but Joe's still has Drake mounts in stock.

Am aware of the bolt problem. When I did the front mounts a few years ago, had to re-use the original bolts. No problem, that worked just fine. As I recall, those provided bolts were not too short, the bolt threads were not cut far enough, nut bottomed before tightening the cushion. Drake sells an extra-long mount bolt, so maybe that's what got into the mount kits I got at that time.

Thanks for your help.

Got the rear mounts in. As you said, the Drake bolts were too short to be usable.

Yep, another Drake product advertised as "an exact copy of the original" um, except the difference(s).
Still, the mount itself is excellent.
