I am installing a 20 year old LeBaron Bonney upholstery kit in me 1940 Deluxe Fordor. The door material is mohair, the seat upholstery is Bedford Cord. So far, the material seems to be in good shape (it was literally mothballed). I am worried about it getting stained or discolored over time. Should I spray it with Scotchguard, or will that ruin it. Thank you all in advance.

I'd be extremely fearful of applying any chemical to mohair. Will it fade over time? Of course, it will. In our lifetime, enough to worry? I doubt it. This interior (pictured) is 30 years installed... Mike "Kube" Kubarth This message was edited by kubes40 on 8-21-22 @ 6:06 AM

Mike is correct, as usual. Here's a tip I've done over the years. When that beautiful LeBaron Bonney interior is finally installed, go to your local store and pick up a pair of inexpensive bedsheets. Take them home, wash them, and then put them over the front and back seats. Sure, it won't be the same as always being able to sit on the original upholstery material, but it should prevent, or minimize any chances for staining. When a special occasion arises - car show - take the sheets off. If you drive your Fordor by yourself, or with a single passenger, just keep the back seat covered all the time. Good luck. Tom

Excellent tip. I have been doing this with my Rouge Award winning 1949 everytime I travel. Also, it makes for hot days in the old Ford more comfortable. Not saying that the old material causes discomfort......................it just is nicer sitting on cotton.
