If the dimple for the pin holding the lock in the drop is not at the bottom of the cylinder when the key is removed, the cylinder has been manufactured wrong for your 1940 Ford. Dennis Carpenter lists a lock cylinder in his part catalog, but I have no idea if it is correct or who manufactured it. You might advertise for a good used or NOS cylinder and live with what you have until you can find one. Here are 2 ads that I found doing a quick search on the Ford Barn. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=305080&highlight=lock https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=302324&highlight=lock Tom This message was edited by TomO on 3-6-22 @ 9:29 AM

Tom, Apparently, you'd noted a question within the original post. I read it as a statement. The ad you'd linked from the guy in CA. are not ignition locks. The ad with the ignition lock, well, that one is proper, but upon close inspection, it appears that the area that the pin locates the cylinder has been wallowed out. Mike "Kube" Kubarth
