I have what I believe to be a correct and original grill on my 1940 Deluxe Fordor. Is it better to have this re-plated or to replace it with a repro? Some people have told me that the originals cannot be re-plated properly (this doesn't make sense to me). I would prefer to keep the original grill, if possible.

I've had a number of these replated with excellent results. I would advise you to utilize a plater that does quality work regardless of price. Cheap plating typically means "so-so" results at best. Also, I do not believe you will be able to source a repro grille. Mike "Kube" Kubarth

On e-Bay the Early Ford Store has a new one for sale for $675. I believe it's made by Vintique. I suspect a good chrome shop will want at least that much to chrome your original. I used a Vintique grille years ago in a '40 deluxe and it was not a bad fit and looked fine for a driver type '40.
