Topic: Actual size template for '40 water heater install

  Mike,
Would you have an "actual size" copy of the installation template for a '40 water heater? I have reprints of the installation instructions, but they are not actual size and I'm unable to use them to locate on the accelerator mounting cups on the firewall as the instructions state due to being too small to be accurate. I don't want to start drilling holes without using a template that is actual size. I'd be happy to pay for a copy + postage. I'm also open to any other ideas as to how to go about it.
Thanks for any assistance you can offer. If you have something you can mail, please email me at mcgarrettv8@gmail.com and I'll provide my mailing address.
Kind regards,
Mike Garrett

If you already have the heater that you intend to install, you can make your own template by measuring the heater, transferring the dimensions to a thin piece of cardboard and then cutting the holes required in the cardboard. Next place the cardboard over the mounting surface of the heater to verify the locations of the holes. Once you have determined that all of the holes are in the correct locations and of the proper sizes, you can place the template on the engine compartment side of the firewall and drill the holes required for the heater.

Thanks to all for you replies. I will do some measuring and see how close I can get to the proper dimensions. I want to do a clean & accurate job of installing without butchering up my firewall. It's pretty clear to me that the key to doing this is lining up on the accelerator bolt cups on the firewall in order for correct placement of the mounting holes as well as the holes for the heater core tubing. Getting a template that is "actual size" would be a real help and eliminate any guesswork.
A blessed Thanksgiving to all,
Mike
