Topic: Air cleaner info

My air cleaner housing has some small pin holes. Has anyone used a conventional paper air cleaner in one of these? If so, do you have any info on it?

I do know some guys have installed paper filters. Just a thought... before you go through that effort, why not acquire a correct filter for your car instead?

Thanks for your reply. Filter or housing? I have the filter that goes with that housing. The oil leaks from the pin holes. I don't know for sure thats the right housing either. New territory!

Your's is not the correct housing.

I've attached photos of both the dry type filters (standard issue) and the regular duty oil bath filters correct for 1940.

Thank you for the clarification and the pics. Now I know what to look for.

kube has shown you the correct air filter housing for your Ford. Should you still be thinking about using a paper filter instead, remember that the paper will restrict air flow considerably more than the original Ford filter material, and will require a larger diameter housing to accommodate the increased sq inch volume of the paper.

Pin holes in the oil type filters can be repaired by filling with solder.

The oil bath cleaner is less restrictive than the paper filters. I have an oil bath cleaner that looks like the ones that Mike posted and has had the top separated from the element to be used for a paper element. If you are interested send me a PM with your E-Mail and I will send you photos.
