Topic: Problem with ,capacitor/condensor

I have a 1940 Ford with a 46-48 Flathead engine. It has been converted to 12 volt system.
I drive this car often having put 9000 miles on the overhauled engine since 2018.
I recently was having problems starting and running smooth so I had all me electric re done and when I picked the car up it ran beautifully for about 20 minutes and 16 miles. Began running very rough and finally just stopped and would not crank. I took it back to my mechanic and we installed another new condensor. It immediately fired up and ran great again for about 20 minutes. Same thing happened.
We then went to another source for yet another condensor, NAPA Eichelin made in Mexico.
This time I have ran the car for 60 miles and for over 1 hr 30 minutes in 90 degree weather. It is running wonderful idling excellent and starts immediately cold or hot without use of choke.
I am apprehensive about having another condensor problem and wondering what would have caused the problem. Any advice comments are greatly appreciated. Dick Mc

Many "new" condensers are junk. Carry a spare or two of the same one you bought last. FWIW

Once read a post from Bubba, a distributor specialist, who said he ordered six condenser for inventory and found four of them bad out of the box. But it seems you have a good one installed now, so probably will be good for many seasons.

Point of clarification:
Your post said “running rough and finally just stopped and would not crank”. Think you meant to say would not start, or would not fire. “Crank” means turn over with the starter.

Jay, you are correct, poor wording on my part. “Crank “, should have stated , would not start.
Thanks for the answers. Drove it again today. Started and ran wonderful.

Paul , your FWIW is worth a lot. Made me a small kit with what I need to change the condensor. However, so far have driven 200 miles and running very sweet and hot starting fine , even in this heat in GA.
Made a 70 mile round trip today with no problem.
Thanks for the help.
