You can buy a reasonably priced ($104) 6 V battery for your '40 Ford at NAPA. It is the correct size, BCI No. 1. The terminals are on the top of the battery but not in the locations of the terminals on your original battery. You may have to purchase a longer cable to connect it to your car. The NAPA part number for this battery is BAT 7244.

I have that battery in the car now with a 1/4 rubber pad wedged between the inner fender and bat that folds over the terminal to keep it of the inner fender and hood. Would like to find a bat that the term is to the inside .

thanks kurt

The 6volt battery I got at NAPA had the posts in the correct location. I forget the number.

Sorry for getting back to you so late.

NAPA 7204N, 6 volt, posts in the right place, fits securely in the battery tray. Depending on how big your MAPA is they should have one or be able to get it from their warehouse in a day or so.
Hope this helps.
