Topic: Radiator overflow tube

I know there is a devise to stop the overflow from the radiator on my 40 ford flathead, looked in the latest V8 publication, can't seem to find it. I drive the truck and when I stop the coolant is flowing through the overflow tube.

Please advise

Is it possible you have overfilled the system? The coolant / anti-freeze should be just barely above the core. If you have the system filled correctly and it still weeps, there is an underlying issue.

Mike, thank you for you input, My radiator is filled just above the core as you mentioned, in previous issues of theV8 times someone was selling a device to pressurize the radiator, I tried to contact him but no answer, are you familiar with this device that goes on the overflow tube>

Thank you again,

Steven

Here is the contact information for Skip Haney

http://www.fordcollector.com/water_pumps.htm

He is the man that supplies the pressure relief valve.

There are 2 designs of radiator top tanks used on the 1940 Fords, the one that Ford supplied with the fill opening on the slant of the tank on the drivers side and one with a center fill opening. If you have the Ford supplied radiator, either you are overheating when you shut down the engine or your antifreeze is foaming. The stock Ford water pumps can introduce air into the cooling system causing the antifreeze to foam. Propylene Glycol (Sierra) is less prone to foaming than Ethelyn Glycol (Prestone) and may work better in you cooling system.
