1939 thru 1948 V-8 239 cubic inch Displacement Mercury and Post War Ford. Note the 99A pre-fex. Also note the 1937 thru 1940 equipped with 60hp 136 cubic inch Displacement with the "54" pre-fex.

Well, we know in theory, the Fords built with a Mercury engine in 1940 should have been designated as such somewhere with "99".
The "problem" remains the lack of any documentation as to what really happened as well as any documentation as to what was supposed to have happened. I have witnessed first hand a number of well documented Fords built this way.
One had a "PC" prefix serial number along with a tag on the cowl that also indicated the "PC" and serial number, two had "99" stamped in to the firewall but maintaining the "18" prefix number on titles and frames. One other, close to me, I've yet to inspect thoroughly. It is with certainty, a documented "merc build".

Mike somewhere I read that only the Vin. number near the front cross member would have the pre-fix, and not the one mid-way of the one, on the rear section of the frame. Domenic
