Topic: 40 script brown coils

I just got the two original script brown coils that I sent out to Skip Haney : 29436 Taralane Drive Punta Gorda, FL 33982 tel. 941-637-6698 or 941-505-9085 and they look better that new, and Skip says that they will perform better that new. Skip says to always disconnect your coil wire if you are working on your car, and to only have the toggle switch on the on position if you are starting and running the car. I also got third gen. automotive to re-build two distributors, that have the 11-A shafts and weights out of a 1941 distributor. This set up will advance sooner, and also will give you 4* degrees more advance that the stock "40" distributor, and it will add 8* degrees to the 37-38 distributors. Now when I get to a tune up I will install this rebuilt coil, and distributor and keep one in a box in the trunk in case of a break down, it will be easier to change the whole distributor and coil , then play with dual points on the side of the road.

I have always found it to be easier to change the distributor with the coil off. I have trouble attaching the vacuum line with the coil mounted on the distributor and it is easier for my old eyes to line up the distributor with the coil off. The distributor should give you 10,000-15,000 mile of ntrouble free performance.

Hey Tom O , do you have any experience with the distributor's with the 11-A weight's and shaft? It's suppose to advance sooner, and have 4*degrees more advance. The 11-A weight's and shaft are out of a 1941 car distributor, and I know that the 1941 car's must have been heavier than the 1940 car was. On the old 1957 Chevrolet half ton truck's with the straight six solid lifter motor it uses a different vacuum advance pod, than the one used on the passenger car 235 straight six that had hydraulic lifter's. On the 1957 passenger car's. The power band must have to come on at a different time? Also thanks' for the tip to take off the coil first, before removing the distributor, these distributor's have an aluminum body, and you do not want to cross thread the soft threads. Domenic

There is a slight performance improvement with the 11A parts as well as a mileage improvement. I have been running my 40 Merc with the 11A distributor for so long, since 1980, I don't remember what the improvement was.
