Did 1940 Ford cars have any sort of windshield defrost like the '46-'48 models? Remember some old cars had small rubber bladed fans to do this. Carl

Two heaters were available on all 1940 Ford passenger cars. One was a hot water heater - the other a hot air heater. Regardless of the type that may have been chosen and subsequently installed, both had a defroster diverter and both had two nozzles, quite similar to '46 - '48 system. Mike "Kube" Kubarth

With the defrosters on and a cloth to wipe the inside of the windshield, you get a clear vision of the road. Tom

Good Morning Carl---- Take a look at page 3-17 of the 1940 Ford Restoration Manual for a good description of the two different types of heaters available, including the correct refinishing for each one.. There is also a reference to page 712 of the Green Book for a detailed picture of the hot air heater and ductwork, including the routing of the defroster ducts. Last, but not least - see if you purchase the tiny little "1940 Ford Accessory Booklet". It has pictures of both the hot air and hot water heaters, which you could have purchased in 1940 for $21.00 installed. Good luck with your heater/defroster. Tom
