Is the 1940 V8 85 or 90 Horsepower?? I thought it was 85 and went to 90 in 1946? Regards, Steve Lee

The 1940 Ford was advertised as 85 HP in 1940. I believe that the 1941 Ford V-8 was advertised as 90 HP. In 1946 both the Ford V-8 and the Mercury had 100 HP V-8 Engines. Tom

! don't think that is correct; I think 1949 was the first 100HP motor, and 1941 through 1948 were 95HP. Regards, Steve Lee

Just to clarify, I rechecked my very credible and well-endorsed resource documentation to confirm and validate myself and indeed 1946 was the first year for FORD to have a 100 hp engine which is what specifically was being discussed here. To add to this and clarify the actual implementation year - Ford or otherwise - of the 100 hp motor, the 1941 Mercury (and 1942) was the first to have a 100 hp 239 flathead installed. After that, as previously reaffirmed for migger45 & TomO, FORDs (and Mercurys) first had 100 hp 239s in 1946-1948. A bit more data from this resource documentation - the '38, '39 & '40 FORDs were 85 hp, the '39 & '40 Mercurys 95 hp and lastly the '41 & '42 FORDs were 90 hp.
